I teach private individual Alexander Technique lessons in Hove which last for 40 minutes. Lessons will be built around your own specific needs.
During a lesson I will use my hands along with verbal instruction to guide you through simple movements such as sitting, standing or walking whilst engaging your thinking to promote freedom of movement and change the way your body organises itself. I use specific and gentle hand contact, which can have a powerful effect at stimulating release and undoing throughout your whole neuromuscular system.
I will help you notice your unconscious movement habits, which may be interfering with your own natural poise and posture and help you develop a way to free yourself from habit and regain control over your body through conscious awareness.
In a course of lessons you will learn the core principles of the Alexander Technique and how to practice the semi supine procedure - a valuable tool you can practice at home to repair your own body from stress and fatigue.
How many lessons you have really depends on your circumstances. Having regular lessons closer together and more frequently to start is more advisable to get a more solid foundation laid.
Standard Lesson (Private Individual lesson lasting 40 minutes)
Introductory 6 week course (six 40 minutes private lessons)
Wellbeing Course (10 private lessons)
Lessons take place at my practice in Waterloo Street in Hove. Waterloo Street runs off Western Road which is supplied by many buses. You can walk from Hove or Brighton railway station in about 20 minutes or get a bus or taxi.
What should I wear ?
Lessons will involve lying down table work and chair work which involves sitting and standing. I advise loose comfortable clothes such as trousers/jeans or leggings.
In Adrian's hands I felt safe and comfortable as it was obvious that he knew what he was doing and underlying his practice was a great depth of knowledge, which enabled him to give precise and easy to follow instructions.
At the end of each session I felt more aware of my body and felt my posture had improved, so without hesitation I can recommend Adrian to anyone who is thinking of following the Alexander Technique.'
